DP9 and MX4

Post by musicman691 »

Is the version of MX4 that now comes with DP9 also available outside DP for use in other daw s/w? I'd expect not but figured I'd ask anyways.

It only appears in MAS format. Might work in another MAS host, if there was such a thing.

And only in 32 bit, AFAIK. I didn't think you could use the MX4 64 bit plug another DAWs or apps. You can still BUY the 32 bit version for use in other applications.

Doesn't even work in DP 8 for me, even though it appears as active in the plugin preferences.

After the DP9 demo is installed, DP8 can't access the MX4 retail previously working.

FYI, the retail MX4 (still for sale) won't open in several of the major DAW's current version. They should update it or pull it from the shelves, IMHO.

There's going to be a simple fix for that. I don't have the retail MX4 so I can't test this. Reinstall DP 8, reboot and repair permissions. This normally rebuilds paths to plugins. DP 8 in Mavericks is prone to this problem—I experienced his a few times after installing a new plug or VI.

I wish they would release the 64 bit version for current MX4 owners. Using it to sway DP8_MX4 owners (like myself) to jump to DP 9 in my opinion is pure BS.

I also can't stand the iLok authorization as well. MX4 and Machfive both require it which is cumbersome. Most other software I can authorize my machine through the iLok system. I wish MOTU would adopt this in the future.

My thoughts - Sorry for getting off subject.

So a few comments about MX4.
  1. You can use the old AU version of Mx4 with any AU host, including DP. Its 32bit however. I am using it with 32Lives and it works fine. I agree with others, I wish MOTU would update the standalone product to 64bit and to the same version as what is in DP9. The latest AU version we have is 2.2.2, and that which is included in DP9 is 2.2.4. Nothing major is different though that I can tell aside from 64bit, but who knows, there might be more different...hard to say.
  2. If you install the legacy MX4 product, 2.2.1 or 2.2.2, then it will overwrite the MAS plugin also, and then DP9 won't even see it anymore other then the AU version. The legacy installer overwrites the MAS bundle, I guess with a 32bit version or something. Makes me wonder what else it might overwrite that might break the newer one in DP, and visa versa.
  3. Anyway what I did is first install the Legacy MX4 and then install DP9 after that. That will have the more up to date MAS plugin for DP9 to use, and the 2.2.2 AU plugin will also be left alone for other hosts. We just have to hope that other support files are all completely compatible or that there is nothing about the DP9 install that ruins the AU version in terms of wavetable files, etc.
Yes I wish MOTU would release the standalone as 64bit. I wish they would get rid of that ilok requirement too but I don't think they will because right now MX4 is a selling point for DP.

MX4 Missing in DP

Post by sacwest »

Anyone else have this problem?? I'm running DP 9.51. MX4 shows up the preferences (MAS). However, it is nowhere to be found in the Add Instruments window. I had the plug-in examined and re-examined by DP - disabled it, enabled it - still not showing up.
Not quite sure how to fix it....

Yes. I have the same problem and came here looking for a solution. I had the old 32-bit version of MX4 running with 32Lives for a few years. The first time I installed a version of DP that has MX4 included it still used the old 32-bit version. I removed the components for the 32-bit version and have even updated to DP 9.52 since. I can see the MX4.bundle in the audio plug-ins folder and it appears in the MAS list in DP, but it never shows up as an instrument. I've also deleted all the prefs and re-scanned plug-ins. I guess I'll have to go back to using the 32-bit version.
