Getting started on working with video and DP

Post by musicman691 »

Other than the DP9 manual, are there any resources out there for someone just getting started working with video and DP? Books or such? I know there's not a whole heck of a lot of stuff out there for DP to begin with.

Are you having a specific issue? It's pretty straight forward.

Just about any of Armageddon's posts are very helpful, such as this one from the DP tips sheet:

Specific issue - yes. Getting started for one; what to do in basic steps to begin with and branch out from there. Like I said material from someplace other than the manual - third party stuff and all that. he manual can't be the only place to go to. Saying something is straightforward is easy for someone who's used to doing things and is of little help for those of us just starting out.

I already mentioned the manual but looking beyond that. Despite what some think, the manual, while great, is not the be-all/end-all of DP info.

They have these 2 awesome video tutorials over at Groove3.

Check them out. You will be totally conversant in DP after going through the basic and advanced one.

Tascam DM-24, MOTU Track 16, all Spectrasonics' stuff,

As good as the Groove3 videos are, I don't recall they had much to say about working with video.

Chapter 3 of Magic Dave's book DP for Engineers and Producers covers it in as much detail as one can.

Just noticed Dave's book has a DVD with a video on scoring to film, and a sample DP project with video. I never noticed it before.

You're right. I didn't read close enough he wanted an emphasis on video.
