Folddown plugins that are DP compatible

Post by goosetunes »

Can anyone point me to some stereo folddown plugins that are compatible with DP8? I need something like the Neyrinck Soundcode plugin that will allow me to create quality stereo folddowns of my 5.1 mixes.... unfortunately that particular plugin is only compatible with ProTools.

For the record, I've tried using the folddown option in the drop down menu on my Master Fader, but the resulting stereo mix just doesn't seem to be translating well. Looking to explore other options.

Any help/guidance would be much appreciate!

Checkout Iosono Anymix Pro http://www.iosono-sound.com/anymix-plug-ins.html
Also now bundled with Nuendo 6, extraordinary piece of kit. Comes as 32 & 64bit as VSt and RTAS. I've been running this fine with DP8 as a VST plug alongside MAS & AU (default). Also see http://www.pro-tools-expert.com/home-pa ... ug-in.html

It does a hell of a lot of cool stuff, but you'll need to check against your own particular expectations. Cheers.

profdraper,

Anymix is 32-bit plugin, which isn't ideal as I'm mostly running DP8 in 64bit mode. But I downloaded and installed the trial to give it a go, transferred the license to my i-Lok, but now I can't see it as a plugin insert option on any of my tracks.... what am I missing?

Question - is this just for a compatibility check - or to create an independent stereo mix?

The Waves Surround bundle seems to cover this well

http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=213

I have however, in the past, created my own 'downmix' from my surround mix - so I can print my surround and stereo files at the same time (I don't like to do bounce to disk - I prefer to record in real time) It helps that I have recently set up my studio with separate stereo and surround monitoring - it helps to do the A/B test through my dedicated systems.

I've essentially created a set of buss sends from my surround channels to a stereo channel so I can balance to taste. It works well.

However this is different from how a surround mix might fold down in, for instance, a DVD/BluRay player - to be honest I often run test disks and check them out on alternative systems. Its all a bit of a gamble, really!!

Cheers

Waves Surround bundle http://waves.com/content.aspx?id=265 is perfect for fold down, the DP master fold down is very strange, I never use it. Used the Waves plug ins on Feature films and HD 5.1 Surround broadcast television commercials, stereo translates wonderfully. It's worth the investment.

I have the 360 Surround waves bundle. Which plug-in do you use to make stereo folddowns of your 5.1 mixes, the 360 Mixdown?

Yes, I use the mixdown plug in, not quite sure how that works when you "bounce" but I will buss the master to another track and re-record the stereo mix with the fold down.

i found in the past that outputting first as discreet 5.1 files.. then importing those 6 mono files back into dp would give better results.. as u can do a few spot checks here an there,, tweak the overall channel level
