Thoughts about missing QuickTime components and DP8

Some thoughts, after reading about this on-line:

Could MOTU have tested DP8 on a system that had all the QuickTime components installed..... not knowing that ever since Snow Leopard appeared that the Apple OSX doesn't automatically install the MPEG 2 component? (it has to be re-loaded from system disk, bought through the iTunes Store, or installed from a Final Cut Studio disk)

- could the absence of the 'QuickTime MPEG-2 conversion component' in the Systems/Library/QuickTime cause all the other problems with regular QuickTime files that haven't been converted to Photo JPEG?

Any video experts out there that would know?

From Apple:

On OS X Lion and later, MPEG-2 playback functionality is built into QuickTime X. The QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component is not required and cannot be installed.
