frame rate: 23.98 (?)

Post by taylor12k »

starting a scoring project this week and the filmmaker said the frame rate is 23.98.

DP doesn't offer that frame rate.... i guess i should ask him if he meant 23.976?

or.. what's the DP equivalent of 23.98?

thanks!

He either misspoke or 'rounded up' ... :)

It's 23.976, but I'd certainly confirm that with him..

Just two ways of saying the same thing. The shorter one catches on more and more, for obvious reasons.

I was just about to ask a similar question about this. I'm working on a project and the video says 23.98fps at the start of it and I'm using the 24fps setting in DP. I thought that these were the same settings but apparently they're not?

I set the video start time but then when I jump a head say 10 minutes further into the video my sync has gone out. I'm working around it by just resetting the video start time for each new cue. Its not an issue for 0:30 sec cues but there has to be a better way. I can't seem to find any other setting change in DP for this and haven't found an answer in the manual yet either.

Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks

Wait a sec...

I just read that very useful link that James had posted in the sticky on this forum (thank you) and if I'm reading this correctly it says that some DAWs don't calculate 24fps correctly. It even mentioned DP not doing it correctly even as late as version 5. Since I'm still using 5 its sounds like this can not be fixed. Assuming that I understood that article

On the iPhone so may be reading this wrong. Set the start time from the track overview pull down, not the movie window. Be sure to select frames. Should work.

Ok.....

Maybe I'm blind. I don't see that as an option in the track overview pull down menu. Don't see it in manual either??

This is what my pull down menu says...

Track columns setup...
Tracks overview preferences...
Open edit windows...
MIDI track annotations >
----
Go to counter
Go to...
----
Clear default patch
Edit tracks in closed folders

I'm lost. Sorry

It is the pulldown on the left where you can select different chunks.

Ug...

Its not in there either. There are 2 different pull down menus to select the chunk from on the left. Neither one has any option of changing the movie start time. Is this because I am still using DP 5?

Thanks for all your trouble but its not an option in DP5. At least I was looking in the right spot. All the more reason why I'm thinking that its time to upgrade...

Thanks again
