MachFive 3 crashes on loops, help please!

Post by fastriffs »

Hello,

I searched the forums and didn't see posts about this.
I also sent a support ticket to MOTU about this.
I called support today and was told to uninstall - reinstall - re-download the universal loops UFS. I did all that. Problem not solved. Support is closed for the day.
So, here's what happens. I click the part column on the left to load an instrument. I select the universal loops, and select a loop, any loop.
Everything stops responding. The blue bars on the loops do not move.
Clicking ok or close or the red X or anything, nothing happens.
I have to open task manager go to processes and end process.

This morning 9/16/2015 I tried it again. It not only happens with loops. It happens with any sounds.

System info;
Lenovo W541
32GB RAM
256 sata SSD
256 M.2 SSD
intel i7 4810MQ
Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit

Thanks for any help anyone can give. When I get this resolved I will be sure to post back here on what fixed it so it may help others.

Re: M5v3 stops responding

Correction to the post above:
I tried some other programs on M5v3 and they work fine.
the piano, bass, choirs.
It only seems to happen on loops.

I got a response from support today on the site ticket system.
I re-installed the update. I tried using it on a new admin account.
I tried a tascam us-4x4 interface.
Isuue is still not resolved.

I suspect that it may have something to do with Nvidia graphics.
The issue happens with th Lenovo W541 and it has NVIDIA Quadro K2100M 2G.

The same issue happens with ASUS N56JN-EB71 with NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB.

The issue does not happen on a HP ENVY 17-j140us. No dedicated GPU.

The HP has a low quality screen. I am debating to return it or replace the screen myself. My first choice to fix this problem would be the Lenovo with the 4k screen and 32GB ram.

So are you on Windows? Mac? I'm guessing Windows but any info that people would need to help is missing.

Yes, They are Windows machines. The specific version and hardware can be seen at the pages linked above.

The Lenovo W541 also has UVI Workstation and it plays the loops with no problems at all. The freezing M5 on loop audition is definitely a MOTU software problem.
I will probably sell the other two laptops. It is shame that I spent so much money on high end laptops for good sound and I can't use them for M5.

I'm a dead man when it comes to Windows machines but since loops are active and require a sync source and clean clean clocking, I'd look into trying a different clocking source. Either external or internal but different from whatever you're currently using. Just a wild hair idea...

My MachFive 3 keeps crashing too. It doesn't matter whether I'm using loops or not. I cannot find the sampler either. I'm using a Lenovo ThinkPad X220, 8GB RAM. I'm using MF3 without any other software. I do have AudioDesk 4.0, but am not using it with MF3.

The UVI workstation is a free download. See if the loops run in it. This will help diagnose the problem.

Tried to load a loop into A1 of MF3 and it immediately crashed.

I was getting a lot of distorted filter noise and notes cutting out. I had to switch both the AVB and MF Control Panel Asio buffers to 4096 samples.

Having uninstalled/deleted/downloaded/re-installed both MF3, its soundbanks and UVI Xtreme FX, MF3 still crashes. I have taken advantage of UVI's crossgrade offer and purchased UVI Falcon. I should have it next week. Seems prudent, at least until MOTU fix or show me how to fix this crashing problem.

I've installed MF3 on a MacBook Pro, and I don't get any problems, except that it initially claims it can't load library volumes due to a licence issue. I can still drag samples into it and load loops without any issues.

Still have problems trying to use the AVB Audio web UI when only connected via thunderbolt.
