Apple Support — a change for the better?

Post by mikehalloran »

I just spent 20 minutes on the phone with Apple Support trying to get my Yahoo business email account working properly again.

Here's the surprise: I was able to set up a free support call without going through any nonsense. No checking the New OS box or anything else. I went to this site last night, selected an available call back time and waited by my phone and Mac at 10:00am.

There's always the possibility that the real problem is AT&T, of course, but Yahoo Bizmail has an unfortunate history in this regard (OK, I hate it but I'm paid through January).

The young lady from Apple was a specialist in the Mac email client and, though she could not get things working the way they were before, I was able to get going by setting up SMTP through iCloud, a solution I don't really like but, if it works, it works — and that's what's really important.

This fits in with my pet theory that Apple's goal is to sell more hardware and finally offering no-strings telephone support fits in neatly with that. I don't really care — as far as I am concerned, it's about damned time!
