Hi......
Looking for a download utility that will enable me to pause and resume large downloads. I am suspicious of utilities that claim to increase download speed by splitting up a big file into multiple pieces and have read of problems with installers downloaded this way. I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for a solid product.
Thanks!

I use Opera and Opera Developer for downloads. I had an 85 gig download a couple of months ago and Developer seamlessly stitched them together over a couple of weeks. Actually, Developer has become my default browser despite a couple of hiccups now and then. The built-in free VPN is another big plus. Very lean and fast. There is also an extension that allows you to run Chrome extensions.

I don't know if you use Chrome, but they have a download utility(Chrono) & there's a preference you can set to resume downloads.
It's free,I've been using it a while and it works well.

"Chrono Download Manager is the first (and only) full-featured download manager for Google Chrome. All your download management is done inside a browser tab instead of by installing a separate download managing application. Chrono is tightly integrated with Chrome by context menus, toolbar buttons and key shortcuts."

Chrome is great for this; Opera is better on problem files that seem to defy other browsers such as day one of a major software update (only reason I keep it installed).
I've had no need for a dedicated download utility since OS 10.4.
