Samsung Ultrawide Monitor!

Post by James Steele »

Hmmm... saw this article on FB. Looks interesting. Don't know if it might interfere with audio monitor placement, but looks nice. Might be cool for DP. At $1500 though not sure. Wonder what street price might be?

Interesting, but I don't like curved monitors much. I do like the separation between my three screens, especially when dealing with several programs at once. I guess i'd have to see it in action. $1500, while high, isn't all that bad as long as it is well built ands reliable. If the user could split the screen into multiple virtual screens, that would be a big selling point.

I'm pretty happy with my 40" 4k monitor. It fills the space between my near fields, I use the extra height constantly when running DP.

Oh yeah; it was under $300. :D

James, you oughta drop by and check it out.

Yeah... I don't think I can run it off my ATI5770 though, and I'm a little bit nervous about a graphics card for a PC that won't show me boot discs when I hold the option key on boot. I may be wrong, but I think that's the only way I can get back to my Sierra drive after I've booted into Snow Leopard.

That's kind of cool. But it doesn't provide any more real estate than my twin 24" LGs, costs 3 times as much, and I don't have any trouble seeing information from my far right or left, so.... I don't think I'll be buying one, although it is extremely sexy.

LG is making the current 4K and 5K monitors that Apple sells and it's been announced that they'll be making the 5K screens for the iMacs (or are they already?) and the Apple branded monitors expected in December.

No mention that this big curved screen is 4K or 5K so I will assume that it's neither.

The 5K equivalent of three 27" monitors fully Mac compatible (for the same price, of course). I could get excited over that.

I actually like the pixel size of my 40" 4k TV; at full resolution, I find DP is comfortably useable with the monitor at typical viewing distance. If the pixels were any smaller, I'd have to go to scaling.

43" 16:10 would probably be even better.

Cinerama! Grand Prix! The Poseidon Adventure! Nostalgia!

I did see a more practical solution yesterday, in the form of a $228 ultra-wide monitor from LG that measures 29" diagonal but is obese in its aspect ratio. Perhaps not tall enough for mixer channels?
