Laptop updated; no issues noted, but this is general use only, no DP.

I updated. Haven't tested with DP extensively besides loading a typical project and hitting playback... but it seemed to be okay. I did a image backup just prior anyway. :)

It pretty much killed two of our computers at work today, but not ones belonging to tech-savvy employees so it's hard to know what that means. I updated my MacPro at work, with no ill effects, and my home computer as well.

This was mainly a security update and fixed some minor networking issues for work groups connected to a central host.

That it somehow 'killed' two computers makes absolutely no sense at all.

10.12.5 installed on all computers and no OS-related issues noted.

Semi-Related: A friend who installed an earlier OS (El Cap, I believe) Security Update had it kill his Nvidia 980 GPU's driver, forcing him to move to Sierra, because Nvidia no longer supports the earlier OS.

AOK here with the latest DP 9.13 (72621). I'd read about the Nvidia driver issues elsewhere.

As luck would have it, I decided to upgrade my computers from Yosemite on the day 10.12.5 came out. So far everything DP related seems to be fine.

I did have my moments of panic when I couldn't open some downloaded software updates, so thanks for the threads on the terminal commands!!

I plan on putting an SSD in my iMac, do I still have to enable Trim in Sierra?

Maybe not, but you can check the status in About This Mac > System Report > Hardware > SATA. Scroll down to the SSD in question and the Trim Support status will be listed about 10 lines down.

I think so but I've not updated a Mac without an SSD.

The above instructions will show if it's enabled (yes) or not (no). If not, open Terminal and paste the following command:

sudo trimforce enable

Then Enter or Return. It will ask for your Admin password, type it and Return again. Recheck the status. I don't recall that Sierra gives you the dire warning that you have to click through.

What year is your iMac?

Mid 2011. I had success upgrading the security bypass with the Terminal command (subsequently reset to default but think I now always have the option for a quick override), so should be able to use the above command when/if I need it.

The local Mac expert said he could configure the new EVO 850 drive to make my current 2T boot drive function as a fusion drive, probably a good idea? The 2011 apparently has an extra SATA port which will allow me to keep both drives installed and running.

Don't know if that would twart plans to load a few VIs directly onto the new internal SSD to complement my already full 1T external SSD. This allocation seems to work very well on my late 2015 SSD MBP.

Did he/she give a reason to do that?
