...and if you ever need more horsepower, the CPU is upgradeable. As the compatible CPU's age, that 12 Core Xeon might just get quite affordable. Right now, they are available used on eBay for under a grand.MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Thanks, Buzzy. My 2013 MP seems pretty ok. Lol.
Just sayin'. After all, if DP is your primary computing hog, enhanced GPUs (not possible on the 6,1) won't bring you much. And Thunderbolt 3 is not necessary for audio.
There's a CPU swap video at the bottom of this page describing the possible 6,1 upgrades... RAM, SSD and CPU.

My biggest concern with the current trash can is it's difficult, and at times, impossible upgrade path. Still, I've nyet to hit the wall on the CPU. The 1TB hd has to be offloaded. Grrrr... A 2TB upgrade is still around $1800. ¡Es no bueno!

It's +/- $1,500 depending on if you want an external housing for the old one. A 4T upgrade is also available for $2,299.99/$2,299.99:MIDI Life Crisis wrote:My biggest concern with the current trash can is it's difficult, and at times, impossible upgrade path. There are shops around here who will make the swap for $75 if unwilling to chance the labor.
Still, it's a pretty big chunk of change when you consider that an 850 EVO is under $600 for 2T and $1,400 for a 4T. $800 more to put it inside... ¡Es no bueno! indeed!
As one might expect when these announcements are made, the unsold 2013 models just hit the Refurb Store:

Re: Apple Promises New Mac Pro
Just checked the Apple site for a new one with my exact same specs and it is exactly the same price I paid for it over two years ago. That's encouraging since when I buy laptops or even the cheese grater, within 6 months or so the price on the same model drops to make room for the newer models.
The trash can is a great machine, IMO. Quiet, cool, efficient. I do wish I could replace the boot drive and add a few SSDs internally, but the external drives are working well - however noisy the fans can be.
I'm not so sure I like the trash can in white. I like how it disappears but my general feeling is that if I needed to replace it I would get another (assuming my 8-core room warmer can't handle the load).
On to scoring Peter Pan... Later, gents.
