For those updating to Sierra from El Capitan, does the App Store take you to the .0 release when you use it to do the update, or does it take you to the Combo Updater version of this latest update?

My recollection is that one can't use the .0 anymore after a few months. When I belatedly went to El Capitan this past May (maybe July?), I had to get my I.T. department at work to loan me a USB hard drive (not even a thumb drive) as nothing else worked. They had it loaded with the latest combo updater, I think.

You'll get 10.12.3 at the App Store right now. It's not the combo update, it's a full install.

The App Store complete download often lags a few days behind the App Store Updater or the Combo Updater but I've never seen it take longer that w week to catch up.

There are times when a complete reinstall good idea such as when you have cloned your boot drive. Cloning does not write a repair partition

If you were to do an Option boot or Option-R boot and do a reinstall, it will match the App Store complete install. This cannot be done on a cloned boot drive until a Repair Partition has been installed via a complete install.

About to start a septet (pno, str qt, and multi-winds) for a new film project and thought it'd be better to update to Sierra (from ElCap) now than to maybe run into some El Capinasties later. Things are not only running surprisingly smooth, but Finale 2014.5 now launches and stays up! I did trash the old plist, which didn't have any effect in El Cap, but in Sierra it worked. I have the movie window back and I don't need to worry about F25 - at least not for a while.

The film (TBA) is about 100 minutes and premieres in mid-May. Details (also TBA) but it will be in a very nice SoCal destination and involve at least one of the Cornies around here playing live in the group.

Thanks for the reports, guys. It was this thread that convinced me it was safe to dive in. So far, no shrinkage! C'mon in; the waters fine.

Well, now that the people who do similar type of work in DP (and other apps) to what I do have chimed in and blessed Sierra as more stable as El Cap, I am over any last remaining nervousness about the upgrade.

I may take care of this tomorrow night, so there's enough time to iron out any kinks before the weekend, thus minimizing the chance of there being a productivity impact during longer sessions.

Good advice all around; I'll probably take Mike Halloran's advice about the staged update approach that captures a bootable recovery in case of problems.

And now the search for a pair of 4TB spinners for my Time Machine redundant backups. My two 2TB spinners are close to 75% filled. It's time.

The WD Red are rated for NAS, a particularly heavy duty use. The warranty is longer but they have a low energy rating. The bearings are supposed to be rated for years running 24/7. I have friends working for a major competitor who gave me the heads-up on these.

Oh yea, Fry's always beats Amazon. Since I live at ground zero for the chain, I never know where they are and are not. It started as a grocery chain hereā€”one of the sons thought the same approach could be done with electronics. Turns out he was right.

The OS upgrade went smoothly and quickly, but some stuff that broke over the past few weeks stayed broken after the upgrade.

BIAS Peak Pro 7 still won't launch
Finale (latest version) won't launch
Cubase 8.5 consistently crashes on startup
Logic Pro X has a lot of validation problems

As always, Digital Performer is miles ahead of other DAW's in terms of plug-ins validating and working. I can't figure out why other vendors have so much trouble with this compared to MOTU.

Adobe apps launched and ran OK, so I guess my perpetual license "v6" software will last a bit longer before I have to find alternatives (since I refuse to go subscription on stuff I rarely use).

Some of the AU validation errors may indicate Sierra compatibility issues that are real, as DP doesn't revalidate once things pass -- the opposite of StudioOne, which won't revalidate things ever again once they have failed once, even if they identify themselves as major new versions.

DSP-Quattro is fine; no issues there. Same with iZotope RX5 Advanced, except that its audio restoration bundles are what prevent Cubase from starting (they can't be found) and cause Logic to crash so often during AU validation.

The iZotope stuff really frustrates me; they used to update and communicate often, and clearly. Now they rarely communicate, never update without charging, and are very muddled and confused. The thing that annoys me the most is that suites step on advanced products, and it is really hard to get your advanced versions to work again afterwards. Not a Sierra issue per se, of course.
