After trashing the Finale plists it ran fine here. DP crashed once after mistakenly launching Finale 2014.5 and having it hijack my sample rate from 48k (my default) to 44.1 (F2014.5 always wants to be T 44).

Some crazy connectivity issues continue with my Logitech solar keyboard. Otherwise Sierra is functioning. I'll try Peak in a bit and get back to you, Mark.

Yea, situation normal for Logic.

Everything passed once I opened the Plugins Manager and re-scanned the ones that failed the first time. Logic 10.3 is much better than 10.2.4 was in that regard.

Nope; even after trashing all three preferences files (regular, TGTools, and fonts), I still get this:

"Unresponsive during engine initialization"

I'm on the latest Finale version though (I paid for the recent upgrade), and seem to recall several of you backing out to the previous one due to issues.

Also, this problem came up last night on El Crapitan before I did the Sierra upgrade. I simply had hoped the upgrade would fix things.

As has been the case with recent updates, the OS X installer did a really good job of recapture somewhere between 13-30 GB of disc space on my solid state drive. Junk it knew I didn't need.

Audio was great right from the start, as I found the latest RME drivers from mid-December (good thing I waited on Sierra; even these are labeled beta or trial or something).

I notice things in general are way snappier on Sierra than on El Crapitan.

As for Logic, yes it has always been bad for plug-in validation, but at least it recovers, unlike Cubase, and also gives semi-useful diagnostics (also unlike Cubase).

I only use Logic for some specific MIDI macros that I wrote, along with occasional use of tghe up-to-date version of now-builtin Alchemy.

I haven't used Cubase yet; I simply found a good upgrade price from my free version where I was grandfathered in from an earlier Yamaha hardware purchase. I've heard it's good for drum editing compared to other DAW's so intend to explore that aspect at some point.

I didn't waste money going from 8.5 to the new v9 though, and my startup issue was true before my Sierra upgrade; plus it doesn't alert to updates and I haven't checked for any.

I just spent three hours trying to take care of all of the recent problems on my computer, mostly with success, but with two outliers that didn't even gain from a reinstall.

Finale 25.2.0.79 still refuses to start up. Same with BIAS Peak Pro 7.0.3.24813.

Vienna Ensemble Pro 6 (latest build from DEC '16) crashes dozens of times before finally launching -- my eyes got too fuzzy to pay that much attention to which plug-ins were causing it to crash.

Oddly, after it finally launched, it said it had an update (JAN '17), even though that one wasn't posted minutes earlier when I checked at the VSL site. But I ran it, and it's definitely more stable.

I figured out the "right order" to reinstall iZotope stuff, and also to ALWAYS say no to "check for updates" as that feature crashes consistently and breaks the installers as well as not finding updates that I didn't know about.

It's become VERY tricky to find the correct order with iZotope installations so as not to step on newer versions. They really need to get their act together if they want to keep pro customers. No one has time for this nonsense. The overlap is unmanaged!

Between the "missing" (NOT!) iZotope plugs and the way-out-of-date Drumagog (found a brand-new update for Sierra at WaveMachine Labs website tonight), along with a couple of Sonnox updates I didn't get informed about, this took care of Logic AU validation crashes and Cubase refusing to launch.

I quarantined the BIAS plug-ins to see if that would help Peak Pro launch, but it didn't.

As for Digital Performer, it never even gave a hiccup.

What I do notice though, is that DP9 is "snappier" in Sierra, and also, somewhat oddly (as I don't remember it being mentioned), the GUI rendering and fonts seem way sharper now.

(edit) Found that Drumagog 5 Pro update — got rid of the last of my Logic errors.

You do have Logic 10.3, right? It's only been out a few days.

I found this in the 10.3 release notes:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203718

Import Music XML files.

If this works as it should, that can be really good for those of us who work in notation first.

I use Logic as a translator and have had very little use for it otherwise. That $200 has paid for itself over and over, however. How MusicXML import will pan out when exported/imported to DP will be something to explore. If it doesn't work out, I hope it puts pressure on MOTU to include the feature into a later version of DP.

Mike, thanks, I didn't read the Logic release notes in full, so didn't notice the Music XML support.

Sorry for not posting the actual link for the Drumagog update; I thought Dave Polich and I were the only people on this forum that use it. I had also forgotten that it doesn't have a standalone version.

Hey, no problem.

Just another company that doesn't send notices we might appreciate like, "Our app is now Sierra compatible. Download your upgrade..." I haven't used it lately and its failure on a Logic boot was the only way I knew. Your post let me know an upgrade was available and I found it. All is good.

Thanks!

I was able to get Peak Pro 7 to re-authorize on my new computer with no problem -- something that was tricky at best with the old computer, perhaps due to cached information. But it still crashes on launch, just as before.

I'm starting to think there might be a specific 32-bit plug-in that is causing this, as Peak is the only app that is likely to bother trying ti validate the 32-bit versions of plugs on launch. Likely I haven't noticed how many are left on my system as I only ran 32 Lives on the ones that didn't have 64-bit versions as those are required by DP and other apps.

I'll see if I can find any potential culprits in my plug-ins folder now -- especially the VST folder as it doesn't get used much compared to Audio Units (aka Components).

I cleaned my system of all 32-bit plug-ins, whether Audio Units or VST. Peak still gets the startup crash, but the crash log indicates that it is when trying to authorize QuickTime plug-ins for MPEG2 encoding.

Reinstalling the "twolame" bundle inside the application contents path didn't help (the MP3 encoding bundle was already present, and the one at the current Peak website is older and likely not valid for Peak 7 vs. Peak 6).
