Macpro 5.1 which os system for DP7.24?
Hi,
I buy recently for a very good price:
Macpro 5.1
2.8GHz Xeon, 16Gig of ram, 4x Hard-drives, plus one ssd for the Os.
I want to install on it:
1. MachV 3
2. Omnisphere 2
3. Superior Drummer.
4. Styllus.
5. DP 7.24
My Question is witch os is the best for this configuration.
Thanks by advance.

DP 7.24 is not supported but works fine in El Capitan. Authorizing it is difficult if you don't have access to a USB CD drive. I know people who have made an appointment at the Apple Store and used one of theirs to do this.
You will need to install the QS font manually—easily done by opening the application, going to Contents/Resources, finding the font and clicking Install. You will get a pop up screen if you don't—not an error as many assume but still annoying till you install the font.
Despite reports to the contrary, run Repair Permissions from Terminal after installing 7.24.
32bit only third party plugins may or may not work in El Cap. Only way to know is to test them.

Still running Mountain Lion here, with DP8.07, with great results.
Mike, wouldn't the built-in CD drive do the job for installing DP7 in El Cap?

I'm not up on which MBPs still have CD drives—my daughter's doesn't.
Yes, if there's a built in optical drive, of course, use it. If it doesn't work, the usual culprit is dust and a cleaning disk generally fixes that.

Re: Macpro 5.1 witch os system for DP7.24?
I wonder if DP7.24 will authorize from a shared (over a LAN on another Mac) SuperDrive. My MBPr on which I want to install 7.24 for testing, has no DVD drive, but my Mac Pro 3,1 music machine does. I don't have an external USB either. Has anyone tried this?

Re: Macpro 5.1 which os system for DP7.24?
I've done several 4,1>5,1 single CPU upgrades for friends and myself using W3680s and 90s. Simple and very cost-effective.
A 5,1, single or dual core, is even easier because you don't have to flash the EFI... just drop in the CPU(s) of choice. W3600 series for Single CPU models. X5600 for Dual.
Here's the poop:

Ebay. Look for a server pull and avoid engineering samples (typically marked "ES"). Don't be afraid to "make an offer" if that option is available. I saved $25 on the last one I bought.

And check X5680 prices, too, as sometimes they are lower. Either will work in a single CPU Mac Pro.
This may be one of the best US-based deals now; multiple chips available, look to be from commercial server retirement, which is good. Not likely overclocked by prior owner:
