Anyone getting "Google Earth Update Helper" pop ups?
Had this plague all day, Console shows "Google Software Update Daemon", I have Chrome and Google Earth installed. Yeah, I Googled it all; there seems to be a process that can't be deleted.

I have Chrome only and have not seen that. I'd delete Google Earth and all it's components unless you need it to survive.

I have Google Earth and not Chrome. I deleted Chrome because of pop ups, but not those you see. I'm not getting any popups from GE.

I was getting those yesterday. I just dismissed them. Haven't seen them today, yet.

Google acknowledges the problem:
Quick update: we've rolled back (undone) the changes that caused the update notifications so hopefully these will subside soon enough.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend removing the updater itself, as it may be used for other installed Google software (you can learn more about the Updater, or the version of it that we open-sourced, here: https://code.google.com/archive/p/update-engine/).
Regarding the password prompt, this is due to the latest version of the Plugin being installed as a system-wide software (just like the desktop Google Earth app is), rather than an app local to the user's account (as older versions did), which is why it is prompting for a password for login--just the same as if you were installing the desktop Earth app. So there's nothing nefarious going on--but again I do apologize about any concerns this may have caused.
Thanks,
Viet-Tam Luu (Google Earth developer)
I'd say that this is at least a little bit evil. Apparently people who don't even have Google Earth were getting this prompt.

I use GoogleEarth Pro and Chrome daily. I never saw the pop up.
Although GE Pro appears to be a paid app, it is not—at least nowadays. I removed the standard version a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the link.
Since having Chrome up to date is important to my daily work flow, I'll file that under hmmmm... interesting.... and ignore it.
