I don't think that any sites I regularly visit require the QT plugin. Do you have a link so I can test? Apple hasn't supported it in years but spent a long time trying to establish it as the Internet standard so that's just wrong—unless it has similar security issues to Adobe Flash.

HTML 5 is causing growing pains. No doubt about that.

Google has already announced that, by this Fall, Chrome will disable Adobe Flash Player except for 10 legacy sites including Facebook and completely by end of the year. Mozilla has made similar announcements and says its dropping it completely by end of 2016. Apple has never allowed it for iOS. Security experts want Flash gone from the Internet since 2010 and the recent Windows version that carried ransomware just made those calls louder.

So, if 2017 comes and browsers really won't work with Flash enabled sites, we're going to read post after post of people who are suddenly sick of Apple and disgusted with Microsoft and very little about how the end of Flash has been widely publicized since June 2015. Will it rival the vilification of Apple when OS 10.4 was released? Perhaps.

Well, interestingly enough, Firefox, which I generally don't use, does play the samples. Chrome and Safari do not, saying there is a missing plugin. Opera, which I have been using more and more, doesn't try to play them on the web, but automatically downloads the files which are then playable on my machine. Curiouser.

Alright.

First off: I'm only the messenger.

The QT plugin works in Safari and Firefox if the user follows these instructions.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205081

I remember doing this after installing Yosemite and Mavericks, too. In Firefox, you have to click on Enable QT Plugin and Remember first time after re-enabling it.

I cannot make the QT 7 plugin work in Chrome. There's an extension called QuickChrome that allows some of your clips to be downloaded but not all such as the Johnny Got His Gun trailer.

Since QT 7 plug, like Flash Player is an NPAPI plug-in and, like all NPAPI plug-ins, are fraught with security issues, consider it dead. Google announced in 2014 that they were ending support for NPAPI plug-ins, Mozilla followed suit as did Apple.

You can ignore the roar of protests screaming Apple, Google and trust. It's not about that—security is the issue.

We are in that grace period where web site hosts and content providers are supposed to be moving everything to HTML 5. It's time to bite the bullet and get with the program. QT 7 no longer works with Chrome and Flash is supposed to be dead by the end of the year—Mozilla, too.

When will Saffari no longer work if those extensions are re-enabled? Apple isn't saying but I expect it to be in the release of OS 10.12. Apple announced this early 2013 and disabled the extensions in the last three versions of the OS (expecting content providers to get the hint, I suppose). They were talking about signed .kxt files and sandbagging since 2010 but didn't implement one till Yosemite and the other till OS 10.11.

Now we know.

I did follow those instructions several times before posting and in the previous version of El Cap, it was working (I have to update my sig...). Oh well... time marches on... forward or backward depending on which side of the super-massive black hole called "anit-consumerism" one happens to be on.

Sucks! Thanks for the info, man. :)

Hmmm... moving the plugins worked for me in 10.11.5. I had to authenticate the move, no problem.

It worked for me until this release. Maybe there's something about the trash can hardware that's different?

How are you doing it?

I opened the Internet Plugins/Disabled Plugins folder, grabbed both files, hovered over the back arrow and released when I got to the Internet Plugins folder. At that point, the authentication screen came up and I entered myna admin password. I then closed and re-opened Safari then went to your site where QT worked.

That's how I did it as well... I'll try again.
