iOS 9.3 Nightshift v. Locked Notes

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

iOS 9.3 seems fine on my 5s and I'm leaving Nightshift on all the time. So much easier on the eyes! But I cannot lock notes (I entered the password in Settings). My Nac is also up to date on software and can't lock notes.

Anyone who has it working have a suggestion? Maybe I need to sync the phone first?

TIA

You lock single Notes, not the entire app. Once set, all Notes with the lock are locked or opened together. Notes without the lock are unaffected.

This worked for me:

http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-secur ... n-ios-9-3/

1. I took an old Note on my iPhone and locked it as per the above instructions.

2. I opened Notes on my iMac, I now saw that locked Note and had to enter the password to read. Good.

3. Going back to my iPhone, the note was still locked. Very good.

4. Back to my iMac, closing Notes and reopening, the Note was again locked. Really good.

Oh yea, I am liking this a lot! :woohoo:

To lock Notes on your Mac in OS 10.11.4, it's a little different.

5. If you set the password on your iOS 9.3 device first, your Mac will use the same password and vise-versa.

6. Open the Note that you wish to lock. Click on the Lock icon in the Toolbar.

The Share icon has no effect on your Mac for this function.

7. You will get a dialog to close all locked notes or leave them open. Select Close...

8. You can click on the Lock icon to lock and unlock all locked Notes at once.

Although you set and remove the lock for each Note individually, the Lock and Unlock functions work on all Notes with a lock. There is no way to unlock some and leave others locked except to remove (or never set) locks on those you do not need to be secure. Not so good but I can live with that.

The Lock and Share icons in the Toolbar:

Nope. Not happening on either device. I know it's per note, not the app... duh! LOL

On the Mac, the lock icon menu is greyed out. On the iPhone it doesn't show up at all, yet the setting is there to set the password.

Not sure what the problem is except maybe it's a 5s? Weird.

Weird? Yes, 5S? Not likely—that's what I have, too.

Have you tried setting it on your Mac instead? You do have Notes talking to your Mac, right? This is normally through an iCloud email address that has no other useful purpose.

It took me a few minutes to get it right following the directions carefully at the link.

The notes are sync'ing but neither device has the option to lock a note.

After going around the bush over at Apple Discussions, someone figured it out...

All good now. Thanks for your help. That little upgrade button never caught my attention before... :banghead:

Ok... I remember that button when I updated to iOS 9. Yea, I never would have thought of that. Nice to know.

As big a revelation as getting Messages to work properly and talk to non-Apple phones.
