Sending audio via wifi

Post by kenh »

Hello, is it possible to send audio via Airport Express to ipads etc for personal mixes?

I am currently using the Monitor 8 and would like to avoid using cables other than Cat 5 or 6 for the wifi network.

Thank you

Yes, if you mean complete audio files. An iOS utility such as AudioShare

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/audiosh ... 59300?mt=8

makes this incredibly easy. If you mean streaming an audio file to your iOS device you could use Airplay if your equipment is compatible. For streaming I use an OSX server like Plex

https://plex.tv/

that has a free version that works quite well.

Keep in mind Airplay will induce around 2 seconds latency.
IMHO, sort of elevator music playing function.
Never used it in production, nor live situation.
