I saw a comment that said they couldn't disable SIP. But I've also heard that the SIP enabled/disabled status is stored in NVRAM, so the status should be retained after an OS update. Seems like this commenter must be mistaken? To continue to use my beloved AlphaTrack, I must be able to disable SIP.

Well, I went for it. Can't see a lot to report, but it did fix an issue I had with the Calendar window not remembering its size. A quick tour of DP and Firewire audio went smoothly. No Audio unit problems, no NI plug problems. Some folks are still reporting Mail problems, but I never had them to begin with.

James, according to what I'm seeing online, you should be able to disable SIP in 10.11.2, but you would need to run the command after any OS update.

Cool. What's weird though is I've heard that the SIP status is in NVRAM and that's it's retained, even after a system update. I'll have to just try and see. No big deal to issue the command again. Can't live without AlphaTrack. :)

I went ahead and updated to 10.11.2 with the combo updater Mike linked to. I didn't have to disable SIP again afterward... the disabled status was retained which is sort of what I heard... that this setting is retained in NVRAM and not on disc. So far, nothing's blown up and my AlphaTrack is functioning as it should! Hooorah! :)

Pretty much my experience as well. And it actually fixed a problen I had with Mail. I'm now running El Capitan on my main boot drive.

Are there any clear advantages or features El Cap adds over Yosemite?

Weird. I'm on a MacPro4,1 (modded to a 5,1 hex) and it rebooted after the upgrade and the AlphaTrack driver was functioning. Maybe it was re-enabled (I should check... there's a terminal command to find out) and the driver is working anyway, but I tested that before and re-enabling SIP prevented the AlphaTrack driver from loading.

I have no idea. I went for El Cap for those purported "under-the-hood" improvements. Since I was already on El Cap, the in for a ¢ in for a £ principle applied. :)

I certainly think so. Everything, and I mean everything - DP, file search, Internet access, my biz software - ran better and faster after upgrading. Files seemed to fly open in half the time, Internet service was insanely great. I could feel this speed increase for a long time after upgrading, and when I had to go back to 10.10.5 because of a conflict with Raven, I could feel it slow down.

Not a lot of feature creep, but seemingly a lot of performance tweaking. Now that El Cap and Raven have both been updated for maintenance, I'm glad to have it back.

I also find myself using the "lost my cursor" feature way more than I ever thought I would, but I never got used to using the split screen view, perhaps because I keep forgetting about it.

Thanks, guys. Finale still isn't 100% yet so I think I'll stay put a while longer.
