Copy DP app folder from a different drive?

Post by ec_pat5150 »

I recently installed a new hard drive in my Mac Pro. I updated all of the OS software to the latest 10.6.8.

The last version of DP i was running was 7.02 which is still on a different hard drive within the same computer. I also have a lot of other great software on that drive too (Ozone, Reason, UAD plug-ins, etc.)

Would it be possible to copy the applications from the other drive and have them run on my main drive?

Yes but...

After installing DP, repair permissions in Disk Utility. This is a must.

You will have to re-authorize DP. Have the original CD in your optical drive and authorization code handy from the manual. Even if you were to clone the old drive over, you normally have to re-authorize.

Cloning can cause some strange authorization errors involving permissions and old hidden authorization files – if it won't authorize, let us know. If authorization succeeds, yiu're good.

If any of your project folders were created on another Mac, archive (zip) them before copying them over – unzipping restores your system and admin privileges that are lost by simply copying them over.. If you are using Time Machine or Migration Assistant to move the files, this step isn't necessary.

Download and install the 7.24 Updater from MOTU. You do not need a 7.24 CD nor do you need to run any of the incremental updaters.

Any iLok protected software is not an issue. Download and install the latest License Manager from ilok.com.

You'll be fine with iZotope no matter how you authorized it before. Other plugins depend on their manufacturers but you shouldn't have a problem.

If the application was authorized through the internet and you have a 'deauthorize' option, do that before moving. Then reauthorize. Otherwise you get a 'too many authorizations' error. Most companies tech support is good at resetting but why call if you don't have to?

I can't seem to find my DP 7 discs anywhere even though I do have my users guide and getting started manual. Is it still possible?

I do have all of my DP authorization numbers on file with motu, as i've been a DP user since DP5.

You will need a DP 7 CD in your optical drive to authorize. It can be any version of 7 but you need one.

Call MOTU for a replacement disk. They'll send you a 7.24 disk for a nominal shipping charge. These are available only to registered users.
