DP 9 and OSX 10.6.8

Post by ec_pat5150 »

my hard drive went to hard drive heaven and i will be starting fresh again. I can't find my DP 7 cd's anywhere, so it looks like i'll be upgrading to DP9. The last OS disc i purchased is 10.6.3 which can be updated online to 10.6.8. This is the minimum that DP 9 needs to run. Has anyone been using DP 9 with 10.6.8? If so, is it stable or should i upgrade to a later OS? If that's the case, any recommendations on OS?

ROCK!

Instal Yosemite. It rocks with DP here.

Tiger, or whatever that was, is too old by now.

El Capitán is due soon.

If this is your machine, the latest OS you can run without a hack is 10.7.5.

http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/m ... specs.html

If so, install 10.6.3 from the DVD and let Software Update take you to 10.6.8 or find and download the 10.6.8 Combo Updater (recommended). 10.7 is a paid upgrade from 10.6.

There are ways to hack so that you can run 10.8/9/10. You'll have to search for that but there are some old threads on the subject.

Hey Mike,
One of my machines is same as the OPs. I have been running 10.6.8 on it because it was such a solid OS. Are there advantages to 10.7 that you know of (particularly related to running DP)?

One of my machines is the same model as yours. I'm running DP 8.07 and OS 10.6.8. I'm considering upgrading to DP9 on that machine but I haven't taken the plunge yet. I may do it this week. If you beat me to it, let me know how it works out. I'll do the same.

Interested in this as well as my old 2008 Macbook is running DP 7.24 on 10.6.8. It's a similar scenario so if anyone is running DP9 and it runs more efficiently or equally so compared to 7.24 I'd be tempted to upgrade.

I don't do serious work on the Macbook anymore but it's a nice vacation machine for poking around and investigating new features or loop libraries etc., or doing a quick commercial spot if I have to.

I am still on 7.24 and reading about DP 8 and above plugins in 64 bits left me with some questions.
What happens when your plugins such as delay is in 64bits and I open an older session in a newer DP for the first time ?

Lots of old threads on this. Normally, it just opens and plays.

There are some MOTU plugs now part of the Trim plugin. You'll get a window saying the old ones can't be found. The functionality is still there but you will have to find the replacement and change. Polarity reversal of a track is one of them. So, if you get that error on a MOTU plug that worked in DP 7.24, check the manual to see how to fix it in DP 8.

Conversely, after you fix a plug in DP 8 by enabling its functionality, you'll get the reverse error screen when you open it back up in DP 7. Most users are unlikely to experience this.

DP 8 running 64bit may have an issue running older 32bit plugins – in 10.6.8, this is rare. If so, start DP 8 or 9 in 32bit mode and see if those plugins can now be found.

The Carbon/Cocoa graphics issue with old plugins shouldn't be an issue as 10.6 is Carbon based.

Sorry I took so long to get back. I finally upgraded to DP9 on the Mac Pro running 10.6.8 and it's working fine. I've done two 3-hour sessions without a hitch so far. Keeping fingers crossed.
