Mac EFI security update 2015

Post by Nibiru »

Good morning y'all!

I admit that I'm not a programmer, and when it comes to what goes on 'under the hood', that I'm blissfully ignorant on some levels for sure. But this update: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204934 ......most definitely scares me, as it's a firmware update. Has anyone installed this with bad results? Not a problem at all? I'm running a 2012 2.6 Mac Mini w/SSD, server, Mavericks 10.9.5., 16gb ram. Am I simply being too paranoid? Just looking for some feedback and any help is always greatly appreciated!

The link works for me. The date of the article is Jan 2015. If you've updated your OS since then, you probably go this already.

Tapatalk wouldn't open the link. Viewing in Safari works.

It's a firmware update only for those Macs considered vulnerable and running ML or Mavericks.

For newer Macs, it is a patch only. It is part of OS 10.10.4 and later so, if you don't want to run it, upgrade the OS.

Be scared if you must. I would be more concerned if my Mac fit the profile and I didn't run it.

Great advice. I think I'll do the update as I'm truly afraid of what may happen to my system if I upgrade to the latest OS, and of course if I don't do the firmware update either. Thanks for the advice! Really appreciate it.

I did the efi update last week; DP9.01 crashed twice right after the update. Repaired permissions and all is now well.

BTW the update is also available through Software Update on ML and Mavericks machines.

Just some feedback...

After doing this update a few weeks ago, a couple days later while working on a project (in DP8.05) the screen locked and audio started stuttering, forcing me to unplug my Mini and reboot. This hasn't happened since, just wondering if anyone else experienced anything like this? In addition, the update still shows up in the updates section of the App Store. Any ideas are very welcome!

It happened once and a reboot fixed it? Could be anything. You might want to update to DP 8.07.

It still shows up in your updates? Did you really run it? Did your Mac make a sustained tone as it does during any firmware update? If not, you didn't run it.

Mac EFI security update 2015

Gosh now I don't remember if it made a sustained tone or not. Restarting fixed it. Maybe it's time to try out 8.07. Is there any harm in doing the EFI update again? Odd that it stills shows up. Pretty sure I remember sitting there waiting for it to update and all.

Thank you Mike yet once again for all your help.
