Time Machine question.

Time Machine question.
When backing up I'm getting an error message which say there's not enough space on my Time Machine backup disk, even though it says in Time Machine Prefs:
"The oldest backups are deleted when your disk becomes full"
I guess that's not happening for some reason. Any thoughts, gang?
Thanks
Edit: Hmmmmm...I ran it again and it finished without the error message this time.

Re: Time Machine question.
You can check a box in Time Machine Preferences to notify you or leave you alone. This box appears when you add a disk.
You have the box checked.

I think I have not made myself clear Mike.mikehalloran wrote:You can check a box in Time Machine Preferences to notify you or leave you alone. This box appears when you add a disk.

It's not a message that says "I will now delete some old backup so that I have room for the new one" (or words to that effect), it is saying "There isnt enough room on this disk, so I cant do the backup" (or words to that effect).
I think, anyway. If it reappears I'll get the exact wording. I do see the button you're talking about and I will uncheck it.
Thanks

Re: Time Machine question.
Well I'm confused too. TM clearly says it deletes old backups when the disk is full. The notification tells TM to notify you when old backups are deleted. This is accessible to me all the time. So from the two statements in the preference panel, I expect TM to delete old backup with the disk is full, and tell me that it did. If that's not what happens, what does?

What generation Time Capsule do you have?

Re: Time Machine question.
I don't have a Time Capsule. I've got a caviar green in a USB enclosure connected to a Airport Extreme, about 7 years old. Airport Utility says the Extreme is version 7.6.4, which I assume it its resident software.
