Spigot Malware Heads Up

Post by Phil O »

It is apparently debated as to whether redirect extensions added to your browser by Spigot Software are malware or not, but some installers place these extensions in your browsers without asking you.

I found out the hard way. While trying to correct a reboot bug on my iPhone, it was suggested that I download Tenorshare's Reiboot.

After doing so, Firefox contracted the well known "redirect virus." A search with Clamxav revealed the culprit as the Reiboot's installer. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the heads up. Thomas Reed is definitely one of the good guys, and AdwareMedic is a very useful tool.

Just to be clear, is it safe to visit the second link you posted?

AdwareMedic is a very useful tool.
Perhaps but I have never found it necessary.

You can go to your browser's extensions, see what has installed and delete it.

And never, ever believe a 'Flash Updater' screen unless you recognize it as the one from Adobe.
