Nice, but... the idea behind thumb drives is transfers and until TB is accepted industry wide it could only be a Mac to Mac thing, by and large.
The Sansdisk USB3 compatible flash drives are quite fast and have made my old flash drives obsolete. Staples had them on sale earlier this week. 64GB for $30!

Yes. You need USB3 to gain the faster access times.
