Migrating to a new hard drive...

Post by Michael Canavan »

So I bought and installed a super fast 500GB SSD in my Mac Pro.
It's fast enough to where any concerns about having your sample libraries on the boot drive are gone. Literally about 11 times faster than the 72000rpm 640GB WD my authorizations/applications etc are on now.

The issue is how to transfer applications and authorizations over as much as I can without just cloning the drive? At 500GB it's going to only have my OS, applications, and sample libraries on it, files, movies, and DP projects make little sense to have on it, maybe the ones you're currently working on if you need the speed...

The only solution I can think of is to move everything off of the old boot drive that I don't want on the new one to another drive, then clone it in Disk Utility or use Migration Assistant and hope for the best. Advice??
