Ambrosia´s Snapz Pro X not working in Yosemite...

Post by FMiguelez »

This is so frustrating. I have the latest version (2.5.4), and when I run it, it keeps saying it needs to instal drivers. I let it do it, restart, fix permissions, etc., but then the instal dialog keeps showing up every time I open the damned app.

I think it's unforgivable that a company doesn't update its software after so long... I Googled around, and it seems nobody who runs Yosemite can run Snapz Pro.

I won't wait around for them. Can anyone suggest a good substitution for this app? I think it's defunct.

Is it a video capture app? If so, take a look at Screenflow. They just released a new version.

Do you have restrictions on installation? A lot of older installers don't trigger the flag that pops the warning.

Allow apps downloaded from •Anywhere should be checked in System Preferences/Security & Privacy

If you already have that checked, it is likely an unsigned .kext checking issue and Yosemite is not letting it load. Trim Enabler 3.3 lets you get around that (even on a spinner) but proceed with caution.

Thanks for the info, billf and Mike.

I actually discovered ( ! ), that I have Audio Hijack Pro. I bought it years ago and had forgotten all about it. I just updated it and it works great for recording any audio from the Mac. Actually, it works MUCH better than Snapz Pro X.

For the video and screen recordings, I just tested QuickTime, and it does what I need beautifully.

For screenshots, ⌂⌘4 works perfectly as well.

So I'm all covered for now.

Thanks! :)

Hello FMiguelez,

Yes, Audio Hijack Pro is really nice. I thought Snap Pro was a screen recording utility, I didn't think it also worked ala Audio Hijack Pro.

For screen recording I usually use Camtasia from http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html

If QuickTime does take care of your needs, then disregard the link. :)

I always assume that everyone knows that. Sorry.

Toast 12 includes a new App called Live Screen Capture. Although I have it installed, I haven't tried it yet. When I do, I will A/B it with QuickTime. I just don't capture that many videos.

True but for more options, you can take screen shots through Preview. ⌂⌘4 is what most people want most of the time.
