keyboard for DP

Post by niken »

I am using DP 4.12 on a Mac G5 1,8.

I wander if someone has experience with a Logic keyboard or anything else that provides great shortcuts and easy to use.

Did someone also bought the instructional dvd set from Macaudiolab about DP?

Thanx

Its not a keyboard, but I've heard good things about the Contour Shuttle Pro: http://tinyurl.com/6z8tp
The folks who like it most are those who work with film and video. You'll want to use it *in addition* to your mouse, I'm told.

I simply use my regular keyboard and customize through the Commands window. I did get a trackball with four buttons, though, which is very, very helpful. I'd go for the Shuttle Pro myself, but I've got very limited deskspace. Kensington makes a similar product, a trackball that *will* substitute for your mouse, and has many customizable buttons.

I use the Orbit optical as well.
The Orbit has saved my butt many a time!
How ???

My favorite trick with the Orbit is to set chording (that's when you squeeze both buttons at the same time) to type "Command +S" and save my file.
I can't count the number of times DP locked up on me and I thought that I hadn't saved recently, but I had. I've gotten so used to saving with the Orbit that I don't even think about it.
I just do a few things in the program and without even lifting my hand from the trackball I can save. It's become second nature to me, I do it without even thinking.

My crashing was mainly in 9 but DP in X still acts up sometimes
and I enjoy my "insurance" from having a fast easy approach to saving.

Well then, I guess that's what I should get. A Kensington Orbit Optical. I think that's what my friend Jay uses with Dp also.
Thanks for your help guys.

I bought the Kensington orbit optical trackball like you recommended and I love it!
I programmed it to do the key command "command S" when I squeeze both buttons, like studiodog recommended, and I also programmed the right button to move to previous measure, (control+option+,) what a blessing that is!

Thanks guys very much!

That Command + S shortcut will become so familiar to you that in a couple of weeks you won't even realize that you're using it.

Happy DP'ing...

I use the commands S every 5-10 minutes or so, and "save as" updating the file name...

sdasd.01 sdasd.02 sdasd.03 about every hour, but this is better, I love it! Thank you very much!
