Here's a review.

Nowadays when comparing monitors, I always pay attention to power consumption since it = heat.

Monitors have become much more efficient over the last few years.

I have one of these: http://www.dell.com/ae/business/p/dell-u2711/pd and I do like it.

You will want to invest in a decent arm/stand (I have a fully articulated, heavy-duty one).
It does give off heat too, and no doubt it isn't the most fuel-efficient out there, but as a display, it is pretty hard to beat.
Cheers,
BK

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

Power
Voltage Required:
100 to 240 VAC / 50 or 60 Hz ± 3 Hz / 1.5 A (typical)

Power Consumption (Operational):
60W(typical) / 130W(maximum)4

Power Consumption (Stand by / Sleep):
Less than 0.5W
Dell UltraSharp U2713HM 27" Monitor
Power Consumption (Operational)
42W(typical) /100W(maximum) 4
Power Consumption Stand by / Sleep:
Less than 0.5 W
By comparison:
Input voltage: 100-240V AC; 50-60Hz
Maximum power: 250W (Thunderbolt Display while charging MacBook Pro)
Energy saver mode: 2W or less

Subtract 85W to get the estimated monitor draw of 165W peak. Per the CNET review, typical power draw is 106.5W–higher than comparable Dells but much, much lower than other monitors just a few years ago.

I bought a couple of these large Dell 30" monitors to replace two 24" Dell monitors I had been using for a few years.

http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/accessor ... s/225-4429

They are great and they run A LOT cooler than the 24" monitors. My "studio" space is small, so the heat savings was important.

Because of their size, the articulated arms I had been using were not very effective. Turns out the stands they came with worked great for my set up.

Cheers

Thanks for the discussion. I noticed before I posted that the power consumption on the u2713 was low. I'd go with the Apple Thunderbolt Display but I'm using a Mac 3,1 as music computer. No thunderbolt.

I went with two of these (below), side by side on an arm. More (and bigger) pixels for fewer dollars better suited my eyes (and wallet.) I have owned for two years and have been been quite pleased. Connected to ATI 5770 with miniDP to DP cables from Monoproce.com.
