896HD trouble on dual G5 front firewire port

Post by alfredo_s »

High,

Because I also use my 896HD for recording in the field, I mainly use my front-side firewire interface on the G5 (so I don't have take a yoga class to put the cable in the back)

But then most of the time I have to switch my 896 on and of (and on again), because else it won't connect to the computer, or it generates noise at all samplerates (and latency's) and it also gives OSErr messages when I switch something in the control-panel.

Also, my firewire drive loses connection on this firewire-port (that's without the 896HD).

So, it certainly must be a G5 problem.
But why do they make a front-port if it doesn't work properly ?

Anyone experiencing the same troubles ? Or can someone tell me if there's a fix, besides plugging "everything" in the rear-port ?

Thanx,
Alfredo
