One of the drives in my dual G5 is constantly crunching and purring and whirling and chunking. As Golem would say, "What's it doing?!" I have journaling turned off. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Re: crunching hard drive
Is file sharing on? Wehn does this cruncing happen, during just idle???
I had such a problem one time. it was a wayward progrma runnning away like crazy.
run your process viewer and look at user processes to see what is tying up your computer/hard Drive

Good idea! How do I get to the activity monitor? Everything runs fine btw, it's just creepy to hear it working away constantly. Can't be good for the drive.

Re: crunching hard drive
activity monitor is located under applications -> utilities
Drives ten to act on read write calls. They breifly read at startup to load the drive bios, etcc. then it's all you/your computer

Re: crunching hard drive
Yeah I'm seeing HD spikes for both read/write but don't really see any running applications that should account for it. Also filesharing is off as well as journaling. Interesting. Maybe my studio's just too quiet!
