(yawn) me either.

wow. rah.

Just what I've been waiting for. A new G4 - and an overpriced digital music player that is engineered specifically not to play wma's

(lol)

That G4 is cool! Granted, it's underpowered for recording. However, the Quicksilver 733 is probably close to the same speed and people have been using those for several years. If this Mini-Mac came out when the iPod came out, it would've been HUGE! I think I'll buy one just so I don't have to haul my tower around. Plus, being a graphic artist, I can link Macs together to process 3D renders via ethernet.

I also think the Shuffle is perfect for active people like snowboarders, runners, ect. The lack of WMA playback makes no difference to me.

The only thing slower on the new mini mac would be the
hard drive.
It should be faster by a far margin over the 733.

They have a conversion kit to convert the iPod mini into an iPod shuttle. It's an app that deletes the first 3,500 songs - and there is a post-it to cover the screen.

Yeah... well true about the G4 though... Nice to see something in a reasonably competitive price range though.

I was just joking about how Steve Jobs seemed to exhibit genuine "excitement" about a flash mp3 player at the keynote - and then extolled the virtues of it having no screen as if it were a "feature" (lol)

Maybe MOTU should put out a version with no UI - just play and record buttons - and then complain about the complexity of competing DAW's (lol)

It is ironic that the Sony president was onstage too... just as Betamax was superior to VHS, but still lost the war, mp3 is pretty tired next to wma, but the iPod seems to be winning the war. Ironic (don't you think?)

Have to admit though... HD video editing for $79 (and multitrack sound recording thrown in) is probably the real breakthrough of Macworld.

Besides the fact that wma is just a superior format size/quality wise, it's just lame that Apple - who is supposed to be "different" and not be all corporate is locking out quality and versatility for whatever reason. They should open it up to all formats like the Zen and some of the other players so if you want to use "OggVorbis" then you have the option.

Perhaps, but I really don't see the
point of any kind of interface on something that small.
I've seen interfaces on small flash players..
"pointless."
I'm almost 40 and (still have 20/20) having something
speed my eyes along to a pair of glasses just won't do.

WMA being a superior format over mp3 maybe.
WMA being superior over AAC ? very debatable.
