TwistedWave iPad/iPhone/Mac
I'm on the road. No laptop. No computer except my iPhone and iPad.
A client calls me. She needs a new 40 minute looped mix of a 4 minute song to use in a parade before I get back to the studio.
I agree to do what I can and search the iTunes Store for a solution. She emails the mp3.
I purchase TwistedWave ($8.99). Put the iPhone speaker next to to iPad mic (doesn't have to be great quality and will be played on a boombox at event.
In less than 5 minutes I was able to record, copy and paste end to end 10 times, fine edit transitions, upload to my server and send the link to the client.
She's convinced I'm a genius. I'm convinced this is the app EVER! And very DP like with some great plugins for processing. Importing audio is tricky and I have quite got that part yet, but the transfer over the air worked just fine for quick and dirty.
Recommendation: don't even ask. If you need to have an awesome audio editor on the the iPad or iPhone just grab it!

That was cool watching you play with it last night. I'm pretty certain I have a use for it. Thanks for the heads-up!

Re: TwistedWave iPad/iPhone/Mac
I went to use it on my first gen iPad this evening and the new version doesn't work. The documentation says iOS 5.1.1 is still supported. I emailed Tech Support. We'll see...

Sounds great. But I don´t get it... Why did you have to record that way? Why didn't you download the music directly to your iPad? I must be missing somethin'MIDI Life Crisis wrote:

Re: TwistedWave iPad/iPhone/Mac
You're asking me to remember what I did a year ago? That's funny. I don't remember why but there must have been some issue in retrieving the file directly. Haven't really used the app since but it was updated recently.
Why are you responding now? Did you search for something and stumble on the thread?

Re: TwistedWave iPad/iPhone/Mac
You can export files directly to iTunes, email or Dropbox. It's not intuitive, however.
With the file open, you will see the Sharing icon in the top right hand corner. Click on it to see your options. Select export to iTunes. Connect to your Mac or PC. In iTunes, click on your device icon, then Applications. Scroll down to see all that allow file sharing. Click on Twisted Wave and you will see files you are sharing with iTunes. Drag the file to your desktop or a folder.
The recent update has apparently broken it on my first gen iPad but it works fine on my iPad Air and iPhone 5S.
I like it because it's very easy to use. I plug a mic into my device, create a new Document, hit record and go. Edits are very easy but anything complicated gets done in DP, of course. This is what the iOS Audio Recorder should have been.
I'm doing a gig tonight and decided to have my wife record a couple of accompaniments for me last night. Plug the iMic into my Air, lay it on the piano lid, hit record and I had a perfectly serviceable track for tonight.

Re: TwistedWave iPad/iPhone/Mac
Update for us iPad 1 owners:
Hi Mike,
There was indeed a problem with the latest update that prevented
TwistedWave from running on iOS 5.
I have fixed it, and sent the update to Apple. The correction will be
available on the App Store as soon as they validate it. I am sorry for
the inconvenience.
Regards,
Thomas

Re: TwistedWave iPad/iPhone/Mac
I used it last night at a gig at Hotel Utah in San Francisco. I ran it off my newer iPad but it could have been my iPhone. It was so convenient to bring up a menu of my accompaniments, touch a song and then the play button–it's immediate with no lag time for loading. Far better than GarageBand or iTunes. Hands down, the best paid iOS App I have.
I'm glad he's going to maintain iOS 5 support. Things happen at gigs and if/when they do, I want it to be on my old, not-so-valuable iPad 1.
Twisted Wave needs a Lock feature you can enable per file so that, when engaged, touching the screen doesn't affect anything–only the transport controls should work. Analogous to breaking the tab on cassette. Had I been careless with my fingers on playback, I could have really screwed up my performance.
I will also make a few suggestions to improve his Help files. Importing and exporting files is quite easy but it's not intuitive. His instructions assume a lot of iOS and iTunes knowledge that most don't have. He needs to spell out the in-between steps.
Last night was my first solo gig since my stroke in 2009. To carry everything I needed in a small shoulder bag is amazing. It was a great show and I intend to do more.
