Why oh why does OSX audio MIDI setup default and get stuck to analoge outs? No matter what outplut I choose, and close AM , re open its back to analoge??

Does dumping the plist help?

How is OS 10.6.3 ? I heard that the AM GUI is different, but how about the functionality?

Either a corrupted plist or config file or both. Dump the config file and the plist, restart A/M setup (no need to restart the Mac) and start over with a new config file. Be sure your drivers for your audio device are also sound (no pun intended). They could also be corrupted, but it's less likely, IMO.

No, config file as in A/M setups.

I didn't know there is an actual AM file?

I've never been able to get the outputs in AMS to anything other than analog with my 828mkII or 828mk3. Deleting the config or preference file never helped - it always reverts back. It may be something particular to MOTU interfaces/drivers - I dunno. The AMS really doesn't mean much because whatever you set the default output pair in MOTU Audio Setup is what is used regardless of the analog setting in AMS. That's for all apps, not just DP. I use S/PDIF set in MOTU Audio Setup and everything goes there even though AMS says analog.

You can have any number of A/M configurations and subsequently any # of A/M files. They're in user>library>audio>MIDI configurations

I can't speak to the MOTU or other gear I don't have. M-Audio FW410 for all it's faults does respond to the A/M setup but it is also true that what DP wants DP gets regardless of what A/M setup has to say about it.

hmm, interesting. Only thing in user>library>audio>MIDI configurations was a mcfg for the PCI consol , no AM files to speak of ?

That is an A/M config file. Create a new one in A/M and it should appear there.

Have you created a new configuration (and named it - like "Test") and then selected it and closed A/M setup? It should appear there. If not, you may have a corrupted plist but I think you've already trashed that. You could also have a corrupted A/M app. It happens!

Again, I don't use that MOTU device, and it is possible (I guess) that it takes over the OS but I doubt it... but you should be able to create a new configuration and see a new file in that window. Mine looks like this:

I haven't trashed the A/M plist yet.

That is odd, I must have a corrupted A/M utility as I never had the opportunity to create a config as a seperate file. :?

I really don't think you'll be able to change the output pair of the MOTU interface in AMS after deleting/reconfiguring, etc. The MOTU Audio Setup configuration does override the AMS OS setting. You select the default device in AMS, but any further audio configuration is best accomplished in MOTU Audio Setup. I've been down this road with two MOTU interfaces, though neither was a 1224.

It is not readily apparent how to create different setups/configs in AMS. It takes some investigation. I doubt you have a corrupted AMS.
