Learning DP8. What is going on here?

Post by PoliticalBonobo »

I am attempting to learn Digital Performer 8, and this is driving me crazy.
Every time I record a MIDI sequence, the sequencer is duplicating all entered notes exactly 1 measure ahead. For example, if I start recording on measure 1, and play a C major scale in the first measure, it will automatically enter the notes I just played into the second measure as well. So I end up with 2 measures of the same scale when I'm trying to record a long piece!

Here's what it looks like when I enter a note in the first measure only. The highlighted part is what it created automatically. http://i.imgur.com/nHG1Y8v.jpg?1

I've been digging through the 900+ page manual and cannot figure this out. I just want to record my song to test out this DAW :?

Be sure "local mode" is turned off on your controller.

I un-checked 'Sync Recorded MIDI to Patch Thru' and that fixed that problem. Thanks for your help! I'm happy it's resolved, but frustrated that it was occurring at all. What exactly was happening? I'm only using an M-Audio Oxygen-61...it shouldn't be creating any "sounds".

DP is still relatively new on Windows and I've not seen that one on a Mac. Not sure what might have caused it.

You are probably using a very large buffer, in which case Sync Recorded MIDI to Patch Thru is useless.

Check to make sure you are not getting doubled notes; if you are, look to your keyboard to make sure it is outputting MIDI on a single MIDI channel only.

I just discovered that my notes ARE in fact duplicating. You were right and I didn't catch it. I set my Oxygen61 to global channel 1, but it doesn't fix the issue. I recorded notes on a MIDI track that doesn't get routed anywhere just to make sure it's not a routing issue.

Any recommendations?

I'm going to post this duplicate notes issue as a separate topic.

You may have multiple zones enabled in your MIDI controller. I've never seen DP create duplicate notes from thin air before. I suspect you're sending the duplicate notes from your controller somehow. :(

Thanks, James. I provided more details at this post here: http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... 31&t=60101

I tested the controller on another DAW and a MIDI monitor, and it seems to work ok, which makes me think it's something in DP.
