Windows 10 users, what latency are you getting?

Post by PoliticalBonobo »

On a pretty loaded project or template, what latency are you getting and what interface are you using to get it?
DP9.5 64bit, Windows 10 Pro 64bit, UA Apollo Quad FireWire interface, Desktop: Intel i7 5820K at 4.0ghz, MSI X99A Gaming 7 mobo, 48gb RAM (DDR4 at 2133 mhz), MSI GTX 960 2GD5T 2GB, 512GB Samsung 950 Pro m.2 SSD (project/system drive). VEP 6

I get a consistent 10ms from a buffer setting of 256 on both the MOTU 828 mk3 hybrid and the MOTU Ultralite mk3 hybrid (both hooked to their computers via USB). Using DP 9.12. That is with VST instruments. My hardware synths have not been measured for their actual latency yet, but I feel no odd delays from them.

Let me know if you want me to do any tests you could suggest. I'll admit I'm not certain of any of the "reported" latency values, but I can definitely tell when it gets too high, and that has not been happening.

Is that @ 48kHz, 24bit? Where do you read the actual latency (ms) in DP?

Hold it - ignore my last post... I just realized I was not recalling figures from DP at all. I was recalling figures reported by Cantabile 3 and Samplitude. Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing where you'd get that info from DP! Sorry about that - ancient brain.

If it is any help, a very loaded-up Cantabile reports these buffer-duration figures from the MOTU 828 mk3 hybrid:

44100 512 -- 10.67ms
44100 256 -- 5.80ms
44100 192 -- 4.35ms
44100 128 -- 2.90ms
48000 512 -- 10.67ms
48000 256 -- 5.33ms
48000 192 -- 4.00ms
48000 128 -- 2.67ms

I've been using 44.1 16-bit typically. Lately I've been experimenting with 96000/24-bit with 512 buffers with 5.33ms latency reported by Cantabile there.

I don't know if that gives you a frame of reference with that interface or not.
The big improvement to DP 9.1 was purportedly that it brought the DP latencies up to speed with all other typical DAWs, so these numbers may be useful after all.

Anyway, sorry again if I am really only wasting your time. False memory!

No worries! And thanks for the info! Those numbers seem really good. I think that says a lot about the 828 interface.
