Midas M32

Anyone using/used the M32 as their i/o with DP?

According to everything I've seen you just plug it into the usb port on the back and it shows up in your DAW.

Just wonder if anyone's actually used it with DP and if it's as simple as they say ... no special drivers or anything, just plug and play.

Tks.

Well, I don't see Mac drivers. There are Windows drivers, however, and these appear to be required for usb connectivity.

I've not heard of 32 in/out usb that was class compliant. 32 in might be possible.

Tks Mike, everything seems to say you just plug in the usb and it shows up in your DAW. Sounds too easy.

Saw someone on the DUC that said that's exactly what happened when he plugged it in with PT's.

Hoping to hear from someone who's actually done it with DP.

I got 3 ( three ) X32Core and 3 S16 i/o.
The M32 has better faders and then some...different preamps, but the firmware and software works for Behringer *and* Midas.
I record 32 tracks with DP 7.24 onto the X32Core - attached Mac mini, controled by remote control software for the X32Core, and play back 32 tracks from the studio Mac mini via firewire or USB and it's just easy as you describe. Coraudio...
OS 10.6.8, DP 7.24, X32Core firmware 2.08, remote control software for the X32Core - X32-Edit vers. 2.3.
I posted earlier somewhere here about it, but see my signature, a pic of a live rig with 2 clients.
Virtual soundchecks etc, all nice things that make my life easier.
I use S16s i/o, and they sound ok to me, I'm used to the 896mk3/H sound, which is a bit less punchy IMPOV, I used these also for live mixing, but to prepare a show, I had to have a 896 attached to be able to program CuemixFX. The Behringer remote soft is standalone too.
The X32Core mix engines are 40bit fixed, I think the M32 are the same.

edit :
Just realised this is in WIN forum...
The Behringer forum posts say it works on WIN too, but drivers are needed

Tks Klaus,

I'd seen that the X32 has the same capabilities as the Midas, but couldn't find any mention of Drivers for it either. I'm still skeptical that it would be as simple as plugging in the usb and it showing up in DP without having to install drivers of some sort.

More research I guess.

Hope this is all that's needed for WIN ( I *still* use mostly Macs / 10.6.8 )

http://www.behringerdownload.de/X32/Beh ... signed.zip
or / and for the i/o card
http://www.behringerdownload.de/X32/X-U ... areV10.zip

Otherwise you could register http://forum.music-group.com/register.php and ask...

If I'm understanding things correctly, and what I've found online, this updates firmware compatibility of X-USB cards installed on X32 consoles, not the external computer running the DAW. From what I've been reading there's no need to update the Midas M32, it comes updated, so your DAW should just recognize it as an i/o.

Thanks again.

I think for WIN
http://www.behringerdownload.de/X32/Beh ... signed.zip
are needed

The 2 other links are indeed for the card firmware update

never mind...

X32 Rack has been plug and play here too.
Never a single glitch in DP.

Just take care of losing your presets while updating mixer firmware.
They may not fit in the new release.

Tks Daniel.

Don't have the option to update anything regarding the board. It's a live theater's equipment, so I'm just walking in with the laptop and plugging into their M32 and hoping I can get dry signals into DP easily. FOH guy won't be concerned about me and recording the show, just his obligation to mix FOH (he's already shown his "attitude" :? ).

It's reassuring it's been plug & play for you and never a single glitch!!

For anyone else who comes across this and would like to know ...

You "DO" need to load drivers from the Midas website to see the 32 I/O. Without it you'll only a stereo pair in and out.

http://www.midasconsoles.com/Products/M32.aspx

Worked like a charm.

Tks again for everyone's input.
