Stability on Windows
How is stability in Windows? I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger for DP8 and wondering how people are doing with it.
Do I need VEP 5 to do heavy Orchestral Plugin work?
Thanks!

Re: Stability on Windows
Did you try the demo?? VEPro is recommended IMO, since DP is very picky about which VST's it likes. If you're lucky with VE, you will be able to run any of your VST's since that's where they will be hosted. I use heavy orchestral templates using Eastwest libraries (Hollywood Strings, SYmphonic Orchestra, etc), and it simply refused to accept PLAY 64bit.

Yep I dloaded the Demo and started playing with it, but got hung up in projects and never really things working. My time expired.
I started on another project today and I was thing how great DP8 would be for creating versions and streamers.
I could put VEP 5 to good use anyway.

Def. recommend VEP with DP8 - helps organise your template load and eliminates any issues certain plugins may have co-existing (as you can give them there own instance of VEP if need be. And once you have parts of your template set up in VEP - its EASY to transfer them to another machine to use over a network if need be.

Re: Stability on Windows
I spent some time on tech support today with Motu as DP will not recognize my 424 card and therefore DP won't start. So far, I would not recommend switching to Windows based on my personal experience. I have heard of other composers switching, but make sure to research their builds. It could be mine is not compatible.
Weird thing is, VEPro sees the 424 card and sends audio, as does Motu Audio Console, just not DP. Very strange.

Re: Stability on Windows
Since discussion of VEpro and performance is part of the thread...
I'm running DP8 - Windows7 on a system that seems to barely meet requirements. Athlon II X2 215 2.7 GHz 4GB RAM (slots maxed out) 64bit.
As you may guess from that, I'm trying to get by on a low budget!
All runs fine till I start adding Kontakt and other instruments, then no amount of buffer adjusting rids me of the crackles and pops. I'll keep investigating optimizing my setup, but I'm feeling the minimum system requirements just won't do.
I'll be saving $ for some solution to this. The basic question is the choice between moving to a single more powerful (and more upgradable RAM) computer -OR- adding another cheap computer like this one running VEpro.
I'm enamored with VEpro from what I read, and like the idea of being able to load it all, eventually adding vienna suite as well.
However, I really want to get up and running and I'm thinking I can afford NOW a computer with similar or better CPU and at least 8 GB ram. (just dread the couple days it will take to move everything)
Go ahead and poke holes in my assumptions etc.
