Roland founder and TR-808 creator Ikutaro Kakehashi dies at age 87.

Wow. I think I have a photo of him at a Chicago NAMM show back in '78 or so posing with my wife and a Space Echo. Now I'll have to see if I can locate it.

I went almost 100% ITB last year... except for one hardware synth that still sounds fresh and that I use frequently. Natch, it's a Roland, a Super JV1080 with the expansion slots filled.
When it came to innovation that held it's worth, Roland has no equal. Jupiter, JV, Space Echo, 808, 909... Roland became the sound of modern music.
RIP, Mr. Ikutaro. Thanks for everything.

My very first synth was a Juno-106. A modest instrument, but to my young mind it was awesome. I always wanted a Jupiter 8 ... maybe one day.
RIP Kakehashi You inspired me and millions more, whether listening to, dancing to or crafting the music that moved us.
