Because your ears can make alternate decisions that are better than what an algorithm can "imagine" since that can't. And because it's fun... it uses your brain... you won't sound like the next guy using the chord picker... and because I'm not that lazy (and I can be pretty lazy!) LOL

Yep!

There's a guy I worked with for many years who'd like me to do charts for everything we did. I will turn him onto this and suggest he pull up all of our old recordings and knock himself out.

I can buy lunch for $9.95.

I'd use it if it could add the chords and symbols to a score so I don't have to type them all out. Logic used to do that, but the feature was dumped recently. I don't do enough of this to buy a full featured scoring app, but simple chord detection would be nice to have.

Then again, good ear training is also something of an asset and it's free, never crashes, and runs on your current brain OS. You don't even need a computer. Do it anywhere, even in the shower. LOL

Yes, for sure. And it's not really hard work if you like listening to music. It just happens, but it's still tedious writing out all the chords for other when an app can do 99% of it for you.

I guess I'm not as pressed for time and enjoy that kind of stuff... and I don't really trust computers to do what is essentially "creative" work. A lot of times I add alterations to chords (9ths, 6ths, flatted whatever) and just having basic chords is pretty boring. I'm also of the mind that good music is rarely "expeditious." It's like a good drawing.: if it takes less than about 6 hours it probably isn't worth looking at. A lot more goes into my arrangements than I - ii - iii - IV - V7 - vi - vii.

Apparently, this was released in 2014 and does not work in El Cap or Sierra.

Whew! My $10 is safe for now.

It's going to work here then. Thinking the dust had settled, I updated the audio Mac to Sierra this afternoon. Then I spent two hours with Apple Support trying to get create an Admin account with no success. They're baffled. So I'll be stuck with 10.10 for a while longer. Remind me just how bad WIndows 10 can be.

Amen to that, MLC. Every time somebody starts complaining about how much time their DAW wastes because it doesn't do this miracle or that magic trick, I always think:

"Did you get into this because you enjoyed making music, or were you just hoping to become the world's fastest music computer operator?"

I spend far more time out of my chair, wandering around the house or stepping outside to pull a few weeds, while I just think about what I might want to do next than I do waiting on DP to do something.

Its not necessarily anything to do with whether you like creating music. Sometimes is just getting it from one format to another, grunt work for software to do.

If you're saying that analyzing and knowing what harmonies you're writing is "grunt work," I don't know what to tell you. I can see wanting the software to do batch conversions while you're out pulling weeds, but figuring out the music for you?

Or do I just not understand what this "chord picker" is supposed to do?

I've wanted something that will take a MIDI file that has the harmonies all done, and will do simple lead sheets with chord charts. I dont need it to create any chords or harmonies, just print what's there already. Logic used to do that but it stopped doing chord detection. AFAIK, you have to reenter the chords manually with DP
