When I saw that you posted a link to tips and tricks I thought, "That doesn't sound like Phil." Then I read the article. Right on, Phil. Right on.

My wife (and bass player - cowriter) and I had a good chuckle over that article and actually there were some good points made.

The best guide mixing ever. It distils my 45 years of experience better than anything I'll write on the topic.

TIP 6 threw me, though... then I read TIP 8 and all was well again.

Oh yea, I need to send this to my daughter.

Finally, some pro audio journalism worth reading. That's the bomb dot com.

I use the Slate plug-ins, and got a link from them via email to a "mixing tutorial" video, and I almost wasted some time watching it, but then I thought:

1. I've been "balance engineering" my own music for over 20 years. Do I even want to learn how to make my drum tracks sound the way Steven likes them?
2. I like my work. Why would I imagine that Steven Slate is a better mixer than I am?
3. Having already heard a lot of it, can I listen to Mr. Slate's fratbro delivery for even another 3 minutes?

Well, the answer to all those questions was "no." So, I threw the e-mail away. I feel more skilled already.
