Translation Help?

Post by Rick Cornish »

Hi........
My old band did a reunion show earlier this year. Our keyboard player arranged for multitrack recordings to be done at the show. Since then, the files have been just sitting, so I thought I'd bring 'em into DP and kick out some quick mixes. The tracks were recorded in Waves Tracks Live (I think...). What I finally got from the engineer today was a couple 10+gB folders containing (1) a Backup folder containing 8 .ssex files and (2) a "Recorded" folder containing 77 .pkf files alternating with an equal number of .wav files of varying lengths. The WAVs play back either silent or really distorted when I QuickLook them.

Can anyone tell me (a) what these files are and (b) what do I need to do in order to bring this project into DP?

Many thanks.

Just try dragging them into DP. DP reads almost anything.

As far as I know, only Adobe Audition opens .pkf files. A Google search finds some )PC utilities you can download but none actually claim to be able to translate to .wav or anything else useful.

This shouldn't be an issue as it looks like these are info only files for Audition and do not contain the audio. That's found in the .wav files. These should open right up in DP.

If the .wav do not open up in DP, that's easy. Drop them onto QuickTime 7.6.6, convert to .aif (convert them back to .wav if you want). This strips and rebuilds the headers—the raw audio is unaffected.
