Korg NanoKontrol2 - Thoughts

Post by VitcoMusic »

Has anyone tried the Korg nanoKontrol2 control surface? I'm considering it to replace my Fader port. At $60 it looks like a pretty good buy. I just upgraded to DP9 (El Capitan), and all is well.

Thanks?

Its good for transport controls and mixer track faders - but you can't attach faders (such as V-Racks). You can attach faders such as V-Racks with NanoKontrol 1 - so I have both. It's worth getting IMHO but I haven't used a Fader port so can't judge if it's comparable.

On my system, when Nano Kontrol 2 output is virtually connected to a Track 16 MIDI input in Audio MIDI setup then it will attach to vRacks.

don't know if that trick works with other MIDI interfaces.

the Nano is not motorized and does not do 2 way communication which can lead to jump cuts and I would imagine makes it somewhat different than Faderport

That's good to know about the faders not being motorized. I wouldn't be using it to control V-Racks. Just MIDI, audio & aux tracks. Can the eight faders be assigned to the next group of eight tracks with a 'bank up/down' button?

I am not sure what a Track 16 MIDI input is - could you explain please? Thanks

It's a pretty handy MIDI/audio interface:

Just to clarify.... we're talking about the NanoKontrol, not the Nano Control Studio, right? Because the latter is looking like kind of a good idea to me.

The Studio looks like the hot set up for me. Bananas At Large in San Rafael has one in stock and they're sending it up to the Santa Rosa store for me. I should be plugging it in on Monday.

Well, I got mine, but can't use it yet: there is no manual, only a quick start guide, and you are directed to the Korg website for the full manual. But it's not there. I've spent 30 minutes in various searches on and off the Korg site, and it just doesn't exist. I did find the Korg USB driver and installed it, which changed the device's appearance in AMS, but that's the extent of it. DP can't see it.

Support ticket in, blah blah blah....

I swear to god, I'm gonna sell all this digital crap and just get a tape recorder.

You got the manual? For the NanoKontrol Studio, not the NanoKontrol2? Send it to me!! I got the USB driver, but I've been begging Korg for the manual for a day and a half now.

Been there, then I think about maintenance of things mechanical :) Cleaning capstan rollers, which I haven't thought of in 10 years, comes to mind, thank you very much.
