How to fix Shure E5 (in ear monitors)

Post by wonder »

I have a pair of SE 425 and the tip of the left earpiece (the piece that holds the rubber flange or foam ear insert) has broken clean off.
Is there a way to fix this? Or just replace the housing? The inner parts of the earpiece are working fine ... its just the exterior that has broken off.

Anyone had the same issue?

They're not under warranty as i was gifted these from a church I play at. They gave them to me since they had no use for them since they are broken.

I tinker with this kind of small repair from time to time, and have gotten to know some products.

I've used sugru to fix some things. It's flexible and can create some durable results, but has a very specific size range of things it is good at. This sounds like it might be too small of a piece for that stuff.

I've also had some luck molding a combination of super-glue and baking soda (there are probably better filler materials than baking soda, but I've only started exploring this method). But you'd want to make sure you could protect the components from getting super glue on them. I think this would be risky at best.

I've had good luck with some epoxy products. If you can get a good bond with the part, it can be a long-lasting repair. However, this does seem like it'd be tricky to repair.

Another glue I like is something called A-6000. It's flexible, bonds with most surfaces (esp. cloth), and sets up relatively quickly. This might work for just glueing several parts together (along with the eartip).

Dwetmaster's lead looks good, worth seeing what they would charge.

I don't suppose you have the piece that snapped off?
