TDIF Snake directly into 2408 MK3?

Post by v1ntag3charl13 »

I am really new to the world of more than 8 inputs at a time.(so this may be a dumb question) Can i plug my drum machine's 8 1/4" outputs directly into the 2408 MK3 with a TDIF snake? I am trying to get the most practical use out of it that i can. I run a Presonus DIGIMAX into one adat for mics and misc modules. I run all 8, 1/4" analogue inputs from my main sampler (Akai s900) already. Bottom line.... Can i use the snake straight to the drum machine or do i need some kind of signal converter or another ADAT converter like the DIGIMAX? Also side note to show you guys i have done some reading on my own. Can i use the 2408 MK1 as a standalone converter?

Thank you in advance.

TDIF is digital, so it seems unlikely, unless the 8 1/4" outputs on your drum machine are some unusual type of TDIF. I would assume they are analog outs, in which case it's a definite no.

The 2408 Mk2 can be used as a standalone converter. I don't know for sure about the Mk1, but if you look at the tech support postings at Motu.com, it sure looks like it can.

I have a v.1 that I bought to use as a standalone converter. It will convert 8 channel analog to ADAT or TASCAM and vise-versa.

I used mine to bring 8 channels of analog to my Fostex FD8 through the ADAT-8 port. Otherwise, the FD8 was limited to 2 simultaneous tracks of analog.

I then connected my 2408 via the 324 card to get those 8 FD8 tracks into my G3 for processing in DP, again through ADAT-8.

Thanks for the input. I will just get an adat converter module on the cheap. I like the sound gritty anyway.
