From their website:
"The RED12 is handmade from an actual discharged 12Ga shell."
Which begs the question, why?

I have heard worse.

Think of the amount of studio time that can be wasted by the conversations it will start. If you are doing the billing, may well be worth the $35, right?

TapeOp gave it a respectable review ... I wonder if they're a true disinterested third party reviewer though...

A member decided to use this topic to make a statement regarding hunting. That violates the "no politics" rule AFAIC. That post and subsequent posts that quoted it were removed. I won't allow slipping one's politics into posts. Doesn't matter if it's PC or not. Thanks.

I don't know, Jack.

Are they sonic neutral? If not, is there a particularly musical quality about them? Are they pre-War, perhaps?

Hmmmm... vintage shotgun shell microphones... :koolaid:

Personally I don't see how the acoustics of a spent shotgun shell would be all that good. The old ones were paper and the newer ones are plastic except for the little bit of brass at the firing pin end.

This kind of gives a whole new meaning to the phrase 'shotgun mic' eh?

To tell you the truth, James, I'm a hunter and I can't remember if I made a post regarding that or not. If it was me, I apologize. If it wasn't me, be vewy, vewy quiet. 8)

If you're interested in 12 Gauge mics, also check out http://naiant.com as well.

Naiant makes great mics for very good prices, and Jon is a super cool dude.
