Which Convolution in 2015?

Post by dewdman42 »

A lot of convolution reverbs out there. I always wanted to get Altiverb, but never got around to it due to price. Thinking about getting a convolution reverb to use primarily for orchestral type work. So.. today in 2015, which ones are the ones to get in terms of quality and also price value. I see that QL Spaces is on sale for $150. Seems a good deal if its good. But what are the other notables and if there are 3rd party IR libraries that everyone thinks are awesome, which ones are the best and which convolution software can handle them?

Not convo, but Sparkverb is on special ATM for $99.
You also might want to check out Phoenix Verb, pretty cool feature set.

…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.

Eventide Ultraverb is my go to these days. Simple and it sounds great. It was on sale a while ago for $30, I think.

Proverb comes with DP and it's a convo reverb. It has part of the MW EQ built-in, too. If you have quality IRs, I think it's very good.

Altiverb i know is awesome. For now anyway, its out of my budget. Part of what makes it awesome is the actual IR lib that comes with it. Proverb is probably adequate, but you hit the nail on the head, IF I have an awesome IR library. So what IR libraries can people reccomend?

Ultraverb is interesting. Its not convolution right? If I saw it for $30 I would probably grab it, though I'm not a fan of ilok crap and dongles in general, but let's not go there, for $30 it would worth while to have, it has a lot of parameters for tweaking and probably gets some great hardware-esque verb. But I'm mostly asking about Convolution in particular right now with an emphasis on reverberating orchestral stuff... ie... real spaces... It would be interesting to follow up this discussion with another one about non-convolution comparisons.

Best $29 I've spent in a long time. Even the default patch is worth it.

That's a bit steep.

Also keep an eye out for a sale on Ultrachannel. That was another $29 no brainer.

I got Ultrachannel when it was free! I don't recall Ultrareverb ever going for $29 when it came out?? It was at an $80 introductory price most places, found it at Audiodeluxe for $69.

Altiverb is on the list, next plug in I want for sure.

My mig budget item this year actually will be Omnisphere2. Altiverb is one of those things I rarely need, but when i do I wish I had it.

http://www.liquidsonics.com/software_reverberate.htm

Reverberate is amazing, and I use it over Altiverb probably 99% of the time. The developer is responsive as well.

I use 3rd party IRs and ones I've captured myself. I couldn't tell you exactly which 3rd party ones I use, since my file organization for them is poor.

I do know that I frequently use http://www.samplicity.com/bricasti-m7-i ... responses/ and http://www.samplicity.com/shop/all/halls-and-churches/ a lot.
