External preamps through Microbook II

Hi all
I am running external microphone preamps through the line inputs of my Microbook II. What is the optimal trim setting on the line inputs for professional (+4dB) sources. Since it also can handle consumer spec sources (-10dB) I assume some attenuation is ideal.
