Ozone 5

Post by RROY »

Would anyone here using Ozone 5 care to offer their views on this plug in. I'm trying out the demo right now and so far I'm impressed. It's on sale right now for $199.00 and you get a free upgrade to Ozone 6 when it's released.

Thanks

I'm at my gig right now, RROY, but I've used Ozone since 3. I like.

There are lotsa options out there right now which I'm pretty sure other members will mention.

I like it amongst at least 3-4 others that I have.

Very natural reverbs, good dithering and useful compression algorithms. It's a very good mastering plugin. I, too have been using since 3.

I upgraded to 5 Advanced this year. The primary reasons are that I can break out the tools as separate plugins and tweak them to a greater degree. Also, it includes Insight. A lot of people don't need this additional functionality.

I'm currently still on version 4, but will be upgrading soon. I regularly use a combination of Ozone's Loudness Maximizer (with dither) and Melda's LoudnessAnalyzer to get my levels right when a project is mastered in house. I'm getting excellent results.
I've also used the Multiband Harmonic exciter on various projects to add a little grit to bass - one of my secret weapons.

Well, Ozone 6 was announced today. Now through Nov. 13, there is sale pricing on new licenses and upgrades.

Do I like the new features in 6 Advanced enough to spend $299 on the upgrade? The jury is out.

Is there a reseller offering a better deal than Izotope's web site or the clickthrough to Sweetwater? i have asked Audio Deluxe for a quote but haven't heard back.

Audio Deluxe sent me a quote to update Ozone 5 Advanced to 6A for $259. I'm still shopping.

I am liking some of the new features. I may have to go for this one.

That's strange; I tried really hard to find the Ozone Advanced upgrade at Audio Deluxe but only found the regular upgrades, so gave up.

Luckily, Front End Audio had a six hour sale I was able to take advantage of and which gave me the same price for my Advanced 5 to Advanced 6 upgrade. I likely won't receive the codes until Monday though, but I don't expect to be doing my next mastering job until Tuesday. :-)

They send email that links you to a site.
http://audiodeluxe.com/izotope-upgrade? ... 2b6fab38f0

You put in your serial number and they email another link that gives the price and takes the order. Convoluted but it works.

Apparently, the sale at Front End Audio is gone as they are now showing the same prices as everyone else.

Oh, I think I didn't get a specific email then as I likely didn't buy previous editions of Ozone through Audio Deluxe. I simply went to their site and couldn't find the Advanced 5 to Advanced 6 upgrade listed for purchase, even at full price, no matter which approach I took to finding it.

The same thing happened at Florida Music, where their email linked to the regular edition but that same page couldn't be found directly through their main website and it didn't provide a hook to the advanced edition upgrade.

As the Front End Audio general across-the-board 15% Hallowe'en sale email came in shortly thereafter, I took a chance that it would apply to this item (which was easy to find listed at their site), and it did.

I just now received an email that their sale has been extended through today, so that's still a good place to grab an upgrade license or any other Ozone license for Version 6.

BTW, why is this under the General Macintosh category? Isn't Ozone a cross-platform tool? I'll bet a lot of people don't see the short-term sales for the upgrade licenses due to where this topic is sitting right now.

You're right. It should be in General Recording.

The intro pricing on Ozone 6 runs through November 13.

Mike, do you have the metering stuff from Melda? If so, I was wondering how it compares to Insight.

I went through Audiodeluxe and all went smoothly to update to Ozone 6 for $89.

I installed Ozone 6 late last night and really didn't have time to mess with it much at all, but initial impression: whoa! instant redline on my computer. Ozone 5 was a mighty resource hog, but O6 seems to almost double that, even on the 'I' setting. Browsed through the manual and many mentions of latency management, i.e. setting the buffer higher.

This version seems more pointed towards serious mastering quality (they say that decisions were made for quality of sound over computer efficiency), so it seems more suited to having your mix done first rather than slapping it on the mixbus with the rest of your project plugs active.

I guess this makes some sense, as one can always use Ozone 5 when you want to mix with an Ozone on the bus. The other thing I was disappointed to find was the lack of presets for the individual modules. I enjoyed experimenting with these module presets in O5 and stumbled upon some really nice variations by mixing up settings on some modules while keeping the rest of the modules intact. There are also fewer main presets, but perhaps that's because O6 doesn't seem geared for tossing on individual tracks. That seems to be farmed out to Alloy and Trash in the current iZotope scheme of things.

On the plus side, the Standalone version should be a useful addition, and underscores O6's emphasis on serious mastering.

Looking forward to using O6, just need to finish some mixes so I can try it out!!
