My Bloody Valentine 24 bit 96k album download

Post by Nibiru »

Hey all

I can't believe I came across this just now. Love this band, and am so blown away in seeing them offer their album, on their own site, in different formats, including 24 bit wav files. How many others have done this? I feel so behind the times!

I love the band (and was surprised when they got back together, but haven't checked out their new stuff), but it seems a strange candidate for hi-res given the general lo-res nature of their sound (not a criticism; I'm just not sure one would tell that much of a difference with guitar-wash music).

Totally feel the same. Foo fighters did the same with their last album, which I bought on vinyl, and also came with a free MP3 download link.

On the MBV site they mention this:

"16bit 44.1 K WAV - This is CD quality with no digital compression. i.e. it's exactly like a CD. This format may not be compatible with some devices.
320kbps MP3 - This format is compatible with most devices.
24bit 96 K WAV - This format may not be compatible with some devices."

I thought it kinda funny they inform the customer a tiny bit about 16bit, but not 24 bit, or even 320k MP3.

I really like this album. Lots of great textures and moods, as expected.

But how many others have offered 24bit downloads?

I have always loved MBV - and they were always a band whose "lo fi" sound was actually quite hi fi . Thanks for notifying about this as I must check it out.

I'm not really into that sound. MBV always has their vocals buried in the mix (at least on the stuff I've listened to). My kids know all the words to these songs. I'm always wondering how the heck they can make out the words on a buried vocal.

I guess I'm just getting old. I feel like my parents. I never thought I'd get to this point. Shoot me now.

I didn't even know they are still a band.

Having said that, I think "Loveless" is one of my favorite albums ever. I got addicted to it as soon as it was released.

Good point about most of their recordings being hi-fi (except that early one that was compiled from demo tapes). What I meant by lo-fi wasn't the recording process; I should have simply said narrow-band instead. As it isn't really full frequency spectrum music and they don't do a lot of intricate stuff with top kit and acoustic guitar close-up work, I just didn't think 96k would make a big difference for them.

I love this band, but is there a way to preview the music before purchasing? It seems a little snooty to have any album for sale with not one single preview.

Btw, every time I hear Loveless, it transports me directly back to 1991. Such an exciting time for music that was.
